2. It comes as no surprise to me that LL is dropping yet another form of communication for people.
They apparently have the final goal of not having to deal with the customers at all.
As for the "growing" comment, Eloise, I find it difficult to believe that Second Life is growing "fast" when the on-line concurrency has seen only a few thousand increase over the past 5 or so months. Yes, it *is* increasing, but it seems like it was in the upper 40,000's for a very long time, and only now have i recently logged on and seen 50,000+ more than once within a week.

Russell, apparently the answer is "yes", they did drop it as soon as the new Support Portal went up. The message was ambiguous though, since formerly, all emails went to their "old" ticketing system (RT). They never managed to make the same for the new system, however, but this was not clearly stated by them. "Encouraging" people to use the new Support Portal is quite different than telling people that the old emails aren't going to work any more.

neural, yes, the difference is that these days there are 50k+ users logged in for extended periods — several hours at a stretch, sometimes 6-8 per day... The 50k "limit" is a critical threshold somewhere at LL's servers, where the number of people logging off due to crashes increases so much that on average only 50k+ are able to be in-world. As soon as the new lag-prevention measures kick in — new asset servers coming in (tomorrow I believe), plus Havok 4, and similar server-side improvements — the "50k limit" will certainly be a thing of the past, and we'll see much higher peaks.

Nacon — most definitely. There are only 10 Concierges for 11,000 private islands. A rumour from a friend said that anybody holding land on the mainland might be entitled to Concierge-level support too — so we might be talking about close to 100,000 people. And just 10 Lindens to handle the onslaught. Definitely not enough!

5. When you consider that some people are running 50 to 100 "bots" then there probably is NO real growth!

6. As long as Robin Linden remains in her job the communications at LL will be a shambles.

She needs to be fired, plain and simple for her many major botch-ups.

Poorly communicated policies on not just Sexual Ageplay but IDV, VAT, Gambling... it all comes from her office. She is the one at fault.

I dunno, this sounds markedly similar to the griping I heard from New York Yankee fans that led to the (unjust) firing of Joe Torre.

Not everyone considers the items mentioned by Jay as major "botch ups".
